I'm a PhD student in library and information science at Nanjing University, currently a fellow at Harvard's Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS).
What I write here: observations from living in the United States, and notes from my work with the CBDB (China Biographical Database) project.
My master's work was in computational humanities — what is more often called digital humanities: developing and evaluating machine-learning and neural-network tools for the automated processing of classical Chinese, and knowledge organization and knowledge mining over premodern Chinese sources. It is why I care about the discipline of a workflow, and try to find the best practice for every step: an undisciplined start tends to mean a great deal of time later spent patching and correcting the early work. I've written that out separately — why this site exists.
I write in both Chinese and English.
